Chief Delegate Update - North Carolina Delegation at the 2025 APTA House of Delegates
The North Carolina delegation attended the 2025 APTA House of Delegates (HOD) in Washington, D.C., where the House acted on 31 motions shaping the future of the physical therapy profession.
Key actions included adoption of a revised Code of Ethics for the Physical Therapy Profession, designation of payment as the top priority for the association, and important specialization updates. These updates included establishment of Primary Care Physical Therapy as the 11th recognized specialization and updated nomenclature for Pelvic and Women’s Health Physical Therapy, reflecting the evolving scope of practice.
The House also voted to allow Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) to run for the national APTA Board of Directors, advancing greater inclusion within association leadership. In addition, delegates voted on national APTA Board of Directors and Nominating Committee members. Election results are available at: https://www.apta.org/article/2025/11/24/2025-apta-national-election-results-announced
North Carolina prepared RC 37-25: Opposition to Physician Ownership of Physical Therapist Services and Self-Referral by Physicians, which received strong support from NC members and national interest. Due to time constraints, the motion was not heard during this year’s HOD. Special thanks to Mary Kay Hannah for leading this effort and to all members who provided valuable feedback and support.
Thank you to the North Carolina delegates for their service and leadership: Erik Carvalho, Deidra Charity, Derek Clewley, Ruby Dixon, Bridget Eubanks, Mary Kay Hannah, Calvin Hung, Sarah Johnson, Vrunda Kapadia, John Orta, Kyle Stapleton, Stacia Hall Thompson, and Cathy Wright.

How can I make my voice heard?List Item 4
- Reach the delegation any time using the link on the Meet Your Delegation page of this website and let us know what your biggest concerns are. This helps us determine which motions we should promote for taking to the House.
- Attend the virtual Town Hall, where the delegates will share information about some of the motions that are going to the House. This is a good space to ask how this motion could potentially impact you and your specific area of practice, then share if you think this would result in a positive or negative change for you. Keep an eye on your email for information on the next Town Hall.
- Share what you've learned with other clinicians or students in your company or program, so they also have the opportunity to have their voice heard.
