Chief Delegate Update - North Carolina Delegation at the 2025 APTA House of Delegates
The North Carolina delegation attended the 2025 APTA House of Delegates (HOD) in Washington, D.C., where the House acted on 31 motions shaping the future of the physical therapy profession.
Key actions included adoption of a revised Code of Ethics for the Physical Therapy Profession, designation of payment as the top priority for the association, and important specialization updates. These updates included establishment of Primary Care Physical Therapy as the 11th recognized specialization and updated nomenclature for Pelvic and Women’s Health Physical Therapy, reflecting the evolving scope of practice.
The House also voted to allow Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) to run for the national APTA Board of Directors, advancing greater inclusion within association leadership. In addition, delegates voted on national APTA Board of Directors and Nominating Committee members. North Carolina prepared RC 37-25: Opposition to Physician Ownership of Physical Therapist Services and Self-Referral by Physicians, which received strong support from NC members and national interest. Due to time constraints, the motion was not heard during this year’s HOD. Special thanks to Mary Kay Hannah for leading this effort and to all members who provided valuable feedback and support.
